How to track crypto across wallets and exchanges
Build a clear crypto portfolio overview by recording account coverage, holdings, valuation times and missing history before comparing totals.
Begin with an account inventory
When your crypto sits in several places, the first useful step is a list of the accounts you intend to include. Use simple private labels such as wallet A and exchange B. Record the network or account type and whether you have checked its current holdings. An old account you have not reviewed should remain unchecked, rather than quietly disappear from your picture.
This inventory defines the scope of the overview. A tracker that supports some accounts does not automatically support every network, exchange product or asset you own. Keep excluded accounts alongside the overview so a convenient total does not become a claim of complete coverage.
Separate amount held from current value
For each included position, distinguish the asset amount from its value in a reporting currency. Token counts across different assets are not a common scale. Identify the intended asset and network, use the same reporting currency for comparisons, and record when its quantity and valuation were observed.
If a price is unavailable, keep the holding visible as unpriced. Missing valuation is not evidence that a holding has no value. Allocation percentages calculated from the remaining priced positions describe that valued subset, rather than necessarily everything you own.
Keep current holdings and historical performance separate
A current balance can be available even when older transaction records are incomplete. A performance measure may need purchase records, fees, transfers and a defined period. Check the evidence behind the measure instead of treating the difference between two account totals as investment profit.
When an asset moves between accounts you own, examine both sides of the transfer within the chosen scope. Do not add an old screenshot of the sending account to a newer receiving balance. Record observation times and available activity before deciding that a position appears twice or is missing.
Use a short review record
Keep four labels beside your overview: accounts included, reporting currency, observation times and unresolved gaps. For each gap, record the next evidence you need, such as an account export or a more recent balance observation. You do not have to place a trade to make this record more useful.
